Region Details

Description

Bisected by Ossmat's "Grekh's Highway" to the sea, and the midpoint between the great cities of Vatrona and Gethsemene, the soil of Ffangor remembers soldiers' boots as well as the merchant's cart and the trader's plough. It has bred a passionate folk, who relish their days of prosperity but never forget how quickly joys may die.

Thistle and bracken wave over the badlands and moors of Ffangor's west. On a high rock between the Bay and the Valeroad from Gethsemene, overlooking a small natural harbor, stands Ffanggard. The most recently built of Ffangor's landmarks, it was built by a young Earl from across the sea who wished to live by his beloved waves. The Earl's new castle dominates the trading highways of land and sea, leaving little space for besiegers.

Further east begins the great lowland plain which stretches across the continent. Here is the breadbasket which, when left un-pillaged, has fed Ossmat for centuries. Fields of rye and barley dominate the countryside, with herds of horses and sheep driven by Ffangor's famous redcoat sheepdogs. Fieldswatch Castle stands at Ffangor's heart at the halfway point of Grekh's Highway. Once the Earl's residence, it remains the administrative heart of Ffangor. Originally built in Old Grekhian style, but rebuilt thrice, Fieldswatch Castle is a silent historian of Ffangor for one who can read it.

Grekh's Highway ends at the fortified town of Harvestport. Far less of Old Grekh remains visible here than at Fieldswatch Castle. Anyone unfamiliar with Ffangor's history would think it only a century or two old. Now, houses and farms dot the countryside around it, but no villages cluster around Harvestport's walls. Its harbor is deep and welcoming, but too small to allow the humble town to rival Gethsemene or Sandefur.

The border with Gemke on the eastern edge of Ffangor is marked only by a single signpost, and the Vailroad slowly fading from cobblestone highway to narrow gravel path.
